Upgrades to Amelie
During the last 10 months we've completed some pretty significant upgrades to help ensure we were ready for our long journey. We added new Victron batteries and battery management system, all new navigation equipment (chartplotter, radar, autopilot), new electric flushing toilet. Added fresh and saltwater flush options and replaced all the sewer pipes in both heads. We created an emergency backup bilge pump wired to the generator start battery instead of the house battery for full redundancy, and did full service maintenance on all winches, the main diesel and generator engines. We also removed the old mast boot, gave it a good cleaning and replaced it with another Spartite boot and Tommy tape for a waterproof seal.
Jonathan also attended some diesel mechanics school, got sailboat charter certified, took a maritime first aid/CPR class, and an advanced navigation course.
Some fun items we've added to Amelie are a pizza oven and a Big Green Egg, the minimax!
A huge thank you to Wesley at Reliable Marine Electronics in Alameda who helped us with all the new radar and battery management system upgrades. His work was stellar and took care of Amelie as if she were his own boat.
