Entering the Channel Islands
Our trip from Cojo Bay to San Miguel Island was quick - 3 1/2 hours. We haven't had much wind to sail and have been motoring most of the time. San Miguel Island is the westernmost of California's Channel Islands, located across from the Santa Barbara Channel. San Miguel is 9.325 acres, owned by the United States Department of the Navy and is part of the Channel Islands National Park. We had the cove to ourselves. With a beautiful expansive beach occupied by seals and sea lions - we could hear the elephant seals. The wind piped up in the late afternoon and continued through the evening and overnight blowing 20+ knots, testing our nerves. Our anchor alarm never went off but we were up several times making sure it was holding. There will be some napping today!
